OSHA National Emphasis Program Amputations Prevention Effective 12/10/2019

OSHA Intent:

The purpose is to target organizations with machinery or equipment that cause or are capable of causing amputations, and organizations where amputations have occurred.    This National Emphasis Program – (NEP) instruction applies to General Industry organizations where machinery or equipment that is likely to cause amputation is present.

OSHA Focus:

OSHA believes the failure to apply machine guarding techniques and control energy hazards during service and maintenance activities are primary causes of amputations.

FDRsafety Can Help:

  • We Conduct Mock OSHA Audits
  • Evaluate hand placement operating machinery and equipment, PPE, No Touch Tools, Two Hand Controls
  • Machine Guarding; Point-of-Operation, In-running Nip Points, Perimeter Barriers, Light Curtains, Inter-lock Systems, Two Hand Controls
  • Lock-out; Procedures Written and Followed, Periodic Inspections of Written Procedures and Authorized Personnel utilizing them, Training and Re-training

Give us a call. We will inspect your operation as OSHA would, addressing high hazard machinery and equipment exposures while providing suggestions for continual improvement in the prevention of hand injuries and amputations.

For more advice on safety, please reach out to FDRsafety.
