“Safety Professionals Staffing Safety Professionals” – Behind The Curtain at FDRsafety

Staffing construction projects is a hectic job regardless of the scenario. Staffing safety professionals can be even more difficult

We have a unique process to ease the pain of staffing safety positions for our clients. Our Manager of Field Services, David Dillow, took the time to go behind the curtain at FDRsafety, discussing the everyday experiences of staffing safety professionals in today’s fast-paced world of construction.

 On Turnaround Time:

Mr. Dillow:  “I have a lot of people who I’ve met over the years in that industry from working with steel mills, refineries, and power plants, so sometimes I’ll talk with our team and say “give Joe Black a call and see if he’s available to go down to Birmingham or Cartersville”.

“In other scenarios, I’ll say we need somebody for XYZ Company and they need to be there Monday. This is their pay rate, this is their per diem, they’re working day shift or night shift, they’re working 10-12 hour days, 6 days a week.”

Our staffing team then gets on the phone, and once they confirm that the candidate can make it, they send me their resume -if I don’t know them already- and I’ll review the resume, then call them to let them know what they’re getting into. “

On Maintaining Customer Relationships:

Mr. Dillow: “We maintain detailed notes for each client in our system with each employee they’ve ever dealt with. Whether they’re good or they’re bad, whatever history in the past. “

On Communicating with New Clients:

Mr. Dillow:  “When you call us or you call me you’re not just talking to someone in the office, you’re talking to a safety professional.  I know the lingo. I know what you’re looking for, what you need, depending on the industry that you’re in. When you say you need a CHST or a CSP, I know what that is. I don’t have to ask those questions. It’s safety professionals staffing safety professionals and there aren’t many other companies that can say that. And that’s what we are. We staff safety professionals. That’s what we do. We don’t staff admins, we don’t staff QA/QC people, it’s safety professionals. “

On the On-boarding Process:

Mr. Dillow: “I ask a lot of questions in the beginning and the reason I ask those is because the employee or potential employee asks the same questions. Where’s the job because they need to find housing. They want to know if it’s worth their time so they’re asking what days are they working, what days of the week, how many hours a week, day shift, night shift, do I need any special PPE, do I need FR stuff?  What do they need? All of that needs to be asked to a potential client so the potential candidate has that information to know the details of the job. “
