Safety tips: When you know better, but don’t do better

By Fred Rine
CEO, FDRsafety

Why do well-trained individuals intentionally ignore safety procedures, putting themselves and others in danger? Think about this: have you ever put yourself at risk in an effort save time? Millions of us do every day.

We are often motivated to follow safety rules to avoid repercussions from supervisors. This is what we refer to as “have to” motivation. A much more effective source of motivation to follow safety rules comes from shifting from a “have to” to a “want to” attitude towards safety. FDR’s Safety Awareness training program will heighten your awareness and understanding of how your safety decisions impact not only yourself, but also your family and loved ones.

Our Safety Awareness program was developed specifically to motivate you to “want to” be safe and has been delivered to over 500,000 participants globally. Many of our clients credit this training with significant decreases in their OSHA recordable rates, in addition to improving overall safety performance.

We welcome the opportunity to discuss how Safety Awareness can help safety performance at your organization. If you are interested, we will schedule a free pilot training session for your senior leadership!

Fred Rine, CEO of FDRsafety, is a former Managing Director of Safety at FedEx and developed our safety awareness program. Contact Fred at 888-755-8010 or frine@fdrsafety.com.
